INSPIRATION

Just a couple dresses. Insipiration: Chanel's little black dress, and the use of vintage fabrics such as in Westwood's early works.

more workbook

I am currently working on a piece about leaves and the body. I began with a basis inspired from art forms that embrace the use of natural materials. Eventually, when I studied two specific artists (F.T. Marinetti and Dorothy Iannone), I developed my idea further. Marinetti, a famous Italian futurist artists worked with stencil and letraset to create dynamic pieces consisting of words and scribbles. In contrast, Iannone depicts her love affairs in series of colorful and borderline vulgar pictures. Although she wants to break the taboo of sex, she remains talented and her work is shocking yet creates just the kind of provocation necessary in the world of art.
In conclusion, my piece because a self portrait, yet a special kind; it embraces not only me, but the world, my school and its people. A life size woman made entirely of leaves stands vulnerably on a big black canvas. She is natural and just like all of us, hence the timely autumn leaves that construct and break off from her body. From her hand falls a series of words in gold. Some are words and others sentences that are shocks or possibly simple phrases of affection, of family and value. Some in Italian and others in English, to construct the diverse split of culture and nationality within everyone. On the back of her body, as the focus of the piece, is big gold letters that spell "E tu, tu chi cazzo sei?" which literally translates into "And you, who the fuck are you?" which is the scream to have people be sure of themselves, and accept themselves but mainly their mistakes. I want to portray the idea that Iannone has taught me: art is not an investigation of things, but it is the climb to bringing not answers but questions, I ask people who they are because in reality the question mustn't be answered, but sought.

final dress photoshoot

I was quite happy with the final design of the dress. Although my original model, Moa wasn't there, the dress was almost the right size for Claire, so it worked out alright. There are a few defects, but a good start to further projects. I'm excited for the next piece.
